IMPORTANT: Aimed at the general public, the Bücco Guide is a general educational guide. Its content presents some of the most common dental practices. However, there are many approaches and philosophies in dentistry and your dentist / specialist will be able to advise you on what he believes to be the most appropriate for your oral health. Do not hesitate to consult a dentist / specialist for more information.
Crown elongation surgery, also called coronary elongation, allows the normally visible part of the tooth to be reached when it is inaccessible due to a major fracture or severe wear and tear. It is then used as a preparatory surgery for a restoration. A crown extension can also be performed in the case of deep carious lesions, or in order to offer a more aesthetic smile in case of a gummy smile. This procedure consists of reshaping the gums and bone around the affected teeth. All this is done in such a way as to respect the biological space, i.e. the vertical dimension of the 3 mm high epithelial-conjunctival attachment. |
