Your First Visit

Your First Visit

Initial contact

Many people are planning their first consultation by phone or by going directly to the dental clinic.

Here are questions to ask during this first contact:

  • What are the documents required upon registration and during the first appointment?
  • What are the treatments offered and the fees?
  • What are the terms of payment?
  • What will be the duration of this visit?
  • What is the waiting period to obtain an appointment?
  • How do I submit a claim to my dental insurance? (If you have one)
  • Should I confirm my presence to this appointment and what is the cancellation policy?

Planning the first appointment

During this first visit, it is strongly recommended to arrive early since you will have to complete a medical questionnaire about your health (if you have not already done it online). It is very important to answer all the questions and inform your dentist of any peculiarity in relation to your health, including allergies, medication taken and surgical procedures you underwent.

Feel free to mention any detail that could help the dentist and his team to know you better and to offer you a service tailored to your needs.

For example:

  • If you are nervous or anxious;
  • If you have already had a bad experience at a dental clinic;
  • If certain restrictions apply to your appointments (duration, pain when your mouth is open too long, cold sensitivity, etc.);
  • If you need specific information (X-rays, the choice of treatment, etc.);

Financial services offered

The financial services available at your new clinic may have some influence on the selection and progress of your treatments. Some clinics offer financial services such as Dentoplan and AccordD, allowing to simplify the procedures with your own banking institutions. Other clinics accept to send the invoice directly to your insurance company so you only have to pay the portion not covered by your insurance. It is important to be well informed to know the modalities and services offered.

The first visit

Your first visit will allow us to make your acquaintance. A meeting with our coordinator will ensure that we’d better pinpoint your needs and answer all your questions.

To improve the appearance of your smile or evaluate your child’s dental health, it is essential to plan a consultation during which we will proceed to an assessment using photos and digital X-rays.

Prevention rather then cure

The dentist may detect problems regarding jaw growth and dental eruption in children. Some problems are more easily corrected in infancy. The first visit is recommended from the age of 7. This period, during which the child is still growing, is ideal for getting the best results possible.

During the appointment, the dentist can also detect a condition that requires a monitoring approach and a subsequent intervention.

Digital radiographs

Using the images produced by our digital X-ray machine, we perform the analysis of your teeth that will confirm the best treatment plan. These images are available quickly and allow the dentist to complete the analysis of your situation with better efficiency.

Photos

During your visit, pictures are taken for a detailed view of all aspects of the teeth, gums and face. Photos are essential to confirm the treatment plan.
